We, the BMW Group, offer you an interesting and varied internship in the area of software development for AI applications. Our department is responsible for implementing new technologies in the context of a consistent digitization strategy for the BMW production system. In particular, we are concerned with the use of foundation models for the development of novel, scalable, effective, and secure applications. The main focus is on the development of platforms for the efficient provisioning of LLM-based applications for specifically for designed for direct and indirect production environments. This includes the combination of various data sources, end-user-oriented interface modeling, as well as the definition and enforcement of standards in dealing with foundation models.

What awaits you?

  • You contribute to our application codebase by reviewing existing projects, writing library modules and conducting integration tests.
  • You research and test different strategies for knowledge retrieval and search.
  • You adapt and align language models and embeddings to specific use cases using advanced prompt and finetuning techniques.
  • You research, design, implement and test data preprocessing strategies.
  • You collect and implement customers' feedback for your solutions.
  • You communicate and present your work and ongoing developments in the LLM-area within the team and the overarching AI-network.

What should you bring along?

  • An excellent bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics, machine learning or equivalent.
  • Experience in modern software development and tools (GitHub, IDEs, agile working models, Linux bash).
  • Strong practical experience in python programming.
  • Strong knowledge of the fundamentals of deep learning and natural language processing.
  • Hands-on experience in at least one major LLM open-source framework like LangChain or Llama-Index.
  • Problem solving skills and being able to work independently.
  • Very good command of the German and English language.
