Copilot in the Microsoft Advertising Platform is an AI Companion which helps advertisers set up and troubleshoot their campaigns, generate high performing creatives (text, image, and video), and answer any questions that they have. We are a fast-moving team of engineers and applied scientists leveraging the latest Generative AI technology to build these tools.

We are looking for a Principal Applied Science Manager to lead the Asset Generation team. You will work with applied scientists and engineers to train and fine-tune generative models to facilitate creation and editing of text, image, and video assets for advertisers, utilizing third-party technology where appropriate.

This role is available both in Mountain View, CA and Redmond, WA locations.

Responsibilities

  • Stay up to date on the latest advances in Generative AI techniques for image and video creation and editing.
  • Collaborate with product managers to understand the business requirements for asset generation.
  • Design metrics to evaluate the performance of each component of the asset generation pipeline.
  • Lead a team of engineers and applied scientists to train and/or fine-tune generative models to create and edit ad campaign assets.
  • Evaluate third-party models and tools for asset generation and integrate them into our pipeline.
  • Hire new team members and uplevel the existing talent on the team.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
    • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
    • OR Doctorate in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of people management experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 12+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
    • OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of people management experience.
  • 3+ years experience presenting at conferences or other events in the outside research/industry community as an invited speaker.
  • Experience using Generative AI to build complex production systems.

Applied Sciences M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $161,600 - $286,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $209,600 - $314,400 per year.
